| "Count me in for 2010" Campaign
Greetings!
I am excited to announce the Missouri Civil Rights Initiative “Count Me In For 2010” campaign! The 2010 Campaign seeks to create broad-based financial support from throughout the Show-Me state as we fight to end race and gender preferences in state and local government.
The 2010 Campaign goal is to obtain 20- $10 and 10- $20 contributions from all 114 Missouri counties. Together we can make a difference for good that will positively impact our state for generations to come.
The effort to end egregious race and gender preferences in state government is both time consuming and expensive. Once again, litigation is required to correct prejudicial and unfair ballot language written by the secretary of state. The ACLU has filed a companion lawsuit and New York City attorneys are working tirelessly to keep the Missouri Civil Rights Initiative (MOCRI) from getting to Missouri voters.
Unfortunately, defending our right to bring this issue before the people is draining MOCRI of much needed resources. I frequently receive calls and emails from well wishers around the country who support our cause. Citizens in many states do not have the option of petitioning their government against discriminatory practices and programs introduced in the name of affirmative action. I am mindful, therefore, that our campaign against preferences has significance beyond our borders, and that we can pursue this course because the people of Missouri have reserved for themselves the power to do so.
With this in mind, I am asking Missourians to take account of their right to “propose and enact or reject laws and amendments to the constitution by the initiative” and support the MOCRI 2010 Campaign. As a 2010 partner, you will receive insider updates about MOCRI events in your area and what’s happening with the initiative effort, plus you will receive a personal invitation to the November 2010 election victory celebration!
Please, you may dismiss a onetime $20 or $10 contribution as insignificant or unlikely to make a difference. But by giving, and encouraging others to do likewise, together we can generate the resources required to pass the Missouri Civil Rights Initiative in 2010!
Sincerely,
Tim Asher
